Cub Scout Leader Specific Training
To be considered fully trained as a Cub Scout leader, participants need to complete both parts of the Cub Scout Specific (CSS) training. Part 1: Intro to Cub Scouting & How We Have Fun, needs to be completed only once during a cub leader’s career. Part 2 is the position/job specific training that needs to be completed each time an individual changes positions. Both Part 1 and 2 are generally offered on the same day, and participants need to register for both separately.
PART 1
Introduction to Cub Scouting
First is a 45-minute introduction to Scouting and to the Cub Scout pack. New leaders learn about the organization of Cub Scouting as well as the essential elements of the Cub Scout program. Set in a model Pack Meeting, new Cub Scout leaders will have the opportunity to learn about topics such as the foundations; purpose; and methods of Cub Scouting.
How We Have Fun
Second is a 45-minute module on all of the ways in which Cub Scouts have fun in both the pack and den setting. In this unit the Cub Scout leader will learn about the different things that make Cub Scouting fun for all. Set in a model Pack Meeting, new Cub Scout leaders will have the opportunity to learn about topics such as: Using Monthly Themes; Planning; Budgets; Parent Involvement; and Activities. Cub Scout Leaders will also receive information about the many resources available to them.
Part 2 (Register Separately)
Position Specific Training
Part 2 is position-specific training for each of the major Cub Scout leader positions in the pack. Each position-specific module is meant to last approximately an hour and a half.
Upon registration, each Cub Scout leader chooses from one of six courses corresponding to their current position of responsibility in the pack. Those six major Cub Scout leader positions are: Tiger Cub Den Leader; Cub Scout Den Leader, which includes the Wolf and Bear Den Leader; Webelos Den Leader; Cubmaster; Pack Committee Chair and Member; and Pack Trainer.
