No cell phones. No internet. How did serviceman possibly communicate during World War II?! One way was with radio. Learn the basics of amateur radio and earn your Radio merit badge.
Prerequisites: This workshop will not cover requirement 8: “Find out about three career opportunities in radio.” Scouts will need to complete this on their own time.
Objectives: To meet the requirements of the Radio merit badge, Scouts will
- View the Battleship Cove’s historic radio rooms and equipment
- Identify the different types of radio stations and waves
- Chart the electromagnetic spectrum and identify parts of a radio
- Draw block and schematic diagrams and symbols
- Explain safety precautions for working with radio gear
- Explore amateur radio and carry on a radio contact using voice and Morse Code
