Wilderness and Remote First Aid
Pre-Requisite: Current First Aid/CPR/AED
(available with the Narragansett Council, see the council calendar for dates)
When: May 15th and May 16th 8:30AM-4:30PM (both days). Participants depart at 4:30 daily and arrive at 8:30, no sleeping over.
Where: Buck Hill Scout Reservation, 464 Wakefield Pond Rd, Pascoag, RI 02859
Park in the large lot on the left and check-in at the Pulver Shelter
What: Wilderness and Remote First Aid is a two-day introduction to general medical concepts and basic life support skills. The course is taught by professional instructors with significant patient care and backcountry experience. Upon successful completion students will receive certification through The American Red Cross in Wilderness and Remote First Aid ( 2 Year Certification) This 2-Day (16+ hour) course meets the anticipated medical needs of the following communities: Seasonal outdoor staff, Backcountry Trip leaders and outdoor industry professionals.
Course topics include but are not limited to:
• Head and Spinal Injuries
• Bone Facture and Joint Injuries
• Cold and Heat Related Injuries
• Wound Care: Lacerations, Punctures, Avulsions and Amputations
Who: Wilderness and Remote First Aid Training is available for Scouts and adults ages 14 and older
Participants are responsible for bringing their own food and water.
This training occurs entirely outdoors, participants should dress for the weather.
Students Packet includes Wilderness and Remote First Aid Handbook via email, packing list, FAQ sheet, discount membership to future medical, rescue and outdoor education programming, future program calendar.
