Virtual Sports Merit Badge

What: While doing the requirements for the Sports merit badge, Scouts learn how playing sports can keep them physically fit. They find out about the importance of training and how to do it safely. Then they demonstrate what they have learned by playing competitive individual sports or team sports.

 Meet your Counselor

A recent graduate of Endicott college in Exercise Science, Brandon Gagliardi has played many sports throughout his life and is a well-rounded athlete. He has played many sports including baseball, soccer, basketball, and football. Some of his athletic highlights include playing football throughout his high school career and at Endicott College. In addition, Brandon also played baseball throughout high school. Currently, he works at Old Colony YMCA in Easton as a personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach. He also coaches football at Norton High School in Massachusetts.

Regina Collura has played several different sports throughout her lifetime including soccer, town baseball, softball, volleyball, beach volleyball and ten years of dance. In the 2019 high school volleyball season, Regina was the captain of her team and received the coaches award. She was an All-Star player in her conference. Next year, she will be attending Springfield College for Athletic Training in the 5-year Master’s program. She also plans to play collegiate level volleyball.

WHO: Open to all Scouts BSA members.

HOW:  This Merit Badge will be taught in a virtual classroom. The class has a capacity of 15 Scouts. Small classroom size provides all students with the opportunity to share and interact with the counselors and other Scouts. Scouts should be prepared to be challenged and to join the conversation! Participants who do not engage with the class may not receive credit for the badge. Scouts must be prompt for all badge sessions. Late participants may not receive credit for all requirements. Scouts must use a device with video to access this class.

Before beginning work on any merit badge, scouts are to have a discussion with their unit leader regarding the specific badge and counselor.

WHEN: This class will be held virtually over two sessions:

June 8, 2020 3:00PM-5:00PM

June 15, 2020 3:00PM-5:00PM

Scouts must attend both sessions to complete the offered requirements.

After registering, Scouts will receive a link and login information via email the day of scheduled class. Scouts will also receive instructor details that can be used to connect to the counselor on Scoutbook. This assures that completed requirements are easily recorded.

PREREQUISITES:  Requirement 5: Scouts should have played at least one season of two different sports.

Suggested supplies/prep-work for students: Requirement 4: Be prepared to establish a personal training program, if not already done with a team.
