Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program, and Intorduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (OLS) will provide leaders with the basic skills and information needed to start a program right. OLS is the required outdoor training for all Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Varsity Scout Coaches. The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in the Boy Scout Handbook. The course is also ideal for Venturing leaders because it focuses on skills that build confidence and competence in leaders conducting outdoor camping experiences.

Recommended items for an overnight campout include:

  • tent (if there is a problem with sleeping in a tent please let us know)
  • sleeping bag
  • sleeping pad
  • ground cloth (old shower curtain works well)
  • backpack
  • flashlight
  • camping chair
  • mess kit (cup, spoon, fork, knife, plate, bowl)
  • sun protection
  • camera
  • personal hygiene items
  • change of clothes
  • scout uniform
  • scout handbook
  • rain gear
  • water bottle
  • notebook, pen or pencil

You don't need to be camping at Yawgoog during the week to attend. This training is open to any registered leader.
