  Anything is possible with popcorn!!

How would you like to show support to our Troops all over the world and make some money for your Pack, Troop or Crew?  We are offering a package to send a selection of popcorn to troops overseas.  It is handled in the same way as the take order.  You take the order and collect the money and Trail End puts it all on a pallet and ships it via Military transport (which they get charged for) overseas to every oversea base. You can place those orders by checking off the appropriate box on your Take-Order forms or online at Orderpopcorn.com.

The Popcorn Fundraiser is in full gear and going very well however time is quickly coming to return the Show & Sell product and place those final orders for your Take Order forms.  November 8th is the last day to place orders for this year’s Popcorn Fundraiser.  Orders can be placed 3 ways:

1.      Online – www.trails-end.com/TESales/index.asp (if you need your Unit’s log-in credentials please call 401.351.8700 ext. 10)

2.      Fax – 401.272.5930

3.      Email – popcorn@narragansettbsa.org  Subject Line: 2008 Popcorn Order

Remember that your Unit can earn money year-round with popcorn simply have your customers re-order at www.orderpopcorn.com.  If you don’t know the TE Order Code for your Pack, Troop or Crew please call 401.351.8700 ext. 10 or email popcorn@narragansettbsa.org for assistance.

Don’t forget about the Show and Sell Return on November 8. All Show and Sell Payments are due along with prize orders for the Scouts. Don’t’ forget to participate in the Popcorn Photo Contest. You have until November 8 to submit your photos to popcorn@narragansettbsa.org.

Venturing- What’s the Fuss about?

Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age.

Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.

Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of exciting and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills, and become good citizens.

Venturing crews can specialize in a variety of avocation or hobby interests.

To learn more about Venturing give me a call or send me an e-mail and we can talk about the possibilities of adding a Venturing Crew in your community or joining up with an existing Crew close to you. There are even Venturing Roundtables that are held every month in New Bedford.

You can also visit: Venturing

Have boys who have dropped from Scouting?

There are some kids who have left our Scouting programs for a variety of reasons, but it’s not too late to invite them back so they can enjoy the adventure of Scouting once again. Letters are being sent to invite those families whose children have dropped off unit charters back to Scouting, but you are free to contact them.

Please forward me a copy of your unit roster so that we make sure that all of the Scouts are registered and covered by insurance. You can e-mail, mail, fax or go over your roster over the phone with me, whichever you prefer.

There are still applications for new boys in our units that have not been turned in so we need those applications and payment for new youth and adults so they can be covered by insurance and can participate in any and all events. I will be available at Roundtable on Wednesday, November 12 at AMICA so you are welcome to bring the applications. If you cannot bring the applications, you can bring them to either one of the Scout Shops or to our office directly.

There are still many boys in our area who can benefit from the Scouting program that we may have missed at our recruitment rallies in September and October. It’s never too late to hold another rally as a Second Chance Opportunity. You can help promote those dates by submitting announcements to your local newspaper and by submitting community announcements to the local cable access channels, which are free. If you need promotional flyers, you can order them online, and I will make sure they are delivered to you.
