Dear Friends in Scouting,
The Yawgoog Alumni Association Executive Committee has been busy as usual spearheading the Association’s mission to preserve and promote the spirit and heritage of Yawgoog and serve as a benefactor to this great camp.
The Alumni Association has become an integral part of a Scout’s daily life at Yawgoog. From the very beginning of a Scout’s Yawgoog adventure we are there in Spirit to greet him through our funding of the refurbishment of the T. Dawson Brown Gateway. I believe the two Thunderbirds atop the gate not only represent the Indians’ messengers to the Great Spirit and the protectors of the campers, but also represent each and every Alumni member smiling down on each Scout that passes through the gate, welcoming them to this Adventureland.
Throughout the week the Alumni touches the Scout’s adventure in countless ways. The H. Cushman Anthony Stockade, the three waterfront cabins, canoes, sailboats, the J. Harold Williams Amphitheatre and the Yawgoog Alumni Heritage Center, to name a few. Big and small, all of our projects have helped pass on the Yawgoog experience in some way. The great Yawgoog staff also benefits from these improvements as well as the scholarship program. This program is an important part of helping to pass on the Yawgoog Spirit and Heritage. Yawgoog benefits enormously from having long-term staffmen that are able to really appreciate Yawgoog and pass down all of its traditions and heritage. The scholarship program is an important part of retaining a quality veteran staff.
As we embark on our 2007 season I hope you will renew your membership and consider a donation to one of our projects. There is no shortage of needs for the camp and the Executive Committee has promised to continue its support. This year we have pledged to help upgrade the aging rifles at the Lane Bliven rifle range and refurbish all three individual camp amphitheatres. And, as we have in the past, we are continuing to build up a staff scholarship fund to provide a legacy of Alumni sponsored staff scholarships.
On behalf of the Yawgoog Alumni Association Executive Committee and the Narragansett Council, I thank you all for your past, present and future generous support of Yawgoog. As you can see you have all had an enormous impact on helping to instill the Scouting ideals on this generation of Scouts.
Thank you,
Steve Dolan
