Virtual Personal Fitness Merit Badge

What:  Scouts learn to keep themselves healthy while working on the Personal Fitness merit badge. They explore nutrition and exercise. They develop an exercise plan and carry it out over 12 weeks. They also find out about careers related to personal fitness.

Meet your CounselorTom Struminsky has been involved in Scouting along with his son since 2006.  He started as Tiger den co-leader later becoming Committee Chair for Cranston Pack 6.  His son chose to cross-over to Cranston Troop 6 where Mr. Struminsky continued to volunteer in troop activities and campouts.  He became a merit badge counselor in the troop and later on, an assistant scoutmaster.  His son advanced to Eagle in 2017 and aged-out the following year.  Mr. Struminsky continued with the troop as a merit badge counselor and also mentors scouts working on their Eagle advancement.

Mr. Struminsky is retired, previously working in Information Technology for AT&T, AlliedSignal and IBM.

WHO: Open to all Scouts BSA members.

HOW:  This Merit Badge will be taught in a virtual classroom. The class has a capacity of 15 Scouts. Small classroom size provides all students with the opportunity to share and interact with the counselors and other Scouts. Scouts should be prepared to be challenged and to join the conversation! Participants who do not engage with the class may not receive credit for the badge. Scouts must be prompt for all badge sessions. Late participants may not receive credit for all requirements. Scouts must use a device with video to access this class.

Before beginning work on any merit badge, Scouts are to have a discussion with their unit leader regarding the specific badge and counselor.

WHEN: This class will be held virtually over two sessions:

June 2, 2020 7:00PM-9:00PM EST.

June 4, 2020 7:00PM-9:00PM EST.

Scouts must attend both sessions to complete the offered requirements.

After registering, Scouts will receive a link and login information via email the day the class is scheduled. Scouts will also receive instructor details that can be used to connect to the counselor on Scoutbook. This assures that completed requirements are easily recorded.
