THEATER MERIT BADGE AT ADVENTURE BASE CAMP

WHO - Scouts BSA members interested in earning the Theater merit badge.

WHATAdventure Base Camp’s Theater merit badge will give Scouts the opportunity to express their creativity through the art of theater. Scouts will work with experienced counselors to perform, write a play, design sets and costumes.

All Scouts will have to perform to earn the badge in its entirety. Scouts will not be assessed by their acting abilities; we only ask that they try their best.

Scouts must notify their unit leaders of their participation in this specific program prior to beginning the badge.

Prerequisite requirements: 1. Watch or read three full-length plays (at least two acts). Take notes in preparation to write a review of each. Review writing will be covered in class. Scouts are allowed to watch recordings of live plays and productions, movies based on plays do not count.

This event is 100% outdoors and will follow Rhode Island safety guidelines. Masks are required everywhere at Adventure Base Camp. Participants will be required to complete a brief COVID screening and waiver at check-in.

MEET YOUR COUNSELOR -  James Walsh is an Eagle Scout and has been part of Narragansett Council since 2017. He is also a professional actor and singer, having worked with Kaleidoscope Theater in Cranston, RI, the Newport Playhouse and Cabaret Restaurant in Newport, RI, and Nickel City Opera in Buffalo, NY.

Class size is limited to 10 participants to ensure that safety protocols are followed and that all participants have opportunities to participate and interact with other Scouts and counselors. Adult leadership is provided by Adventure Base Camp staff and all youth protection guidelines are followed. The safety and priority of our Scouts, their families, our staff and community are priority. We have developed specific protocol to ensure the safety and health of all. Events are subject to change depending on COVID-19, EEE or weather.
