IMPORTANT: EEE & West Nile Virus Cautionary Statement
At this time, it is not widespread, but we are urging all Scouts, leaders, and staff to take precautions in any and all outdoor activities. The most important things that people can do are to (1) wear long-sleeve shirts and long pants in the mornings and evenings when mosquitoes are most active and (2) use bug repellant (with DEET).
EEE is a serious mosquito-born illness that results in death for 30% of those infected, so this is an important issue! We will be issuing updates via our social media, website and e-newsletter over the next few weeks. This will continue to be an issue until the first hard frost which will kill the majority of mosquitoes.
If you are involved in any upcoming program activities that involve evening or overnight elements, be sure to communicate to leaders and Scouts in advance that it is vital that they follow these steps to protect Scouts and leaders.
As of today, we are not limiting overnight activities, but we will continue to monitor that situation and if it gets worse, we may need to.
