Virtual Engineering Merit Badge

What: Scouts who are working on the requirements for the Engineering merit badge learn about the process of building and creating products and structures. They investigate the variety of careers available in engineering. Scouts explore how engineers use a step-by-step approach to make improvements for society.

Meet your Counselor - Vincent A. Marseglia is a retired Industrial Engineering Manager for CVS Health and has served part time as an adjunct instructor on the engineering faculty of the University of Rhode Island. His education includes a BSIE from URI’74 and an MBA’85 from Bryant College.

Vin has been involved in BSA in years past as both a Webelos Leader and a Committee Chair in Troop 49 Lakewood. He resides in Warwick, RI with his wife, Patricia, who served as a leader in Girl Scouts. Their grown children have both received the highest awards in scouting, Michael (Eagle) and Kathryn (Gold Award).

WHO: Open to all Scouts BSA members

HOW:  The Engineering Merit Badge will be taught in a virtual classroom. The class has a capacity of 20 Scouts. Small classroom size provides all students with the opportunity to share and interact with the counselors and other Scouts. Scouts should be prepared to be challenged and to join the conversation! Participants who do not engage with the class may not receive credit for the badge. Scouts must be prompt for all badge sessions. Late participants may not receive credit for all requirements. Scouts must use a device with video to access this class.

Before beginning work on any merit badge, scouts are to have a discussion with their unit leader regarding the specific badge and counselor.

WHEN: This class will be held virtually over four sessions:

August 25, 2020 7:00PM-8:30PM EST.

September 1, 2020 7:00PM-8:30PM EST.

September 8, 2020 7:00PM-8:30PM EST.

September 15, 2020 7:00PM-8:30PM EST.

Scouts must attend all four sessions to complete the offered requirements.

After registering, Scouts will receive a link and login information via email. Scouts will also receive instructor details that can be used to connect to the counselor on Scoutbook. This assures that completed requirements are easily recorded.

PREREQUISITES:  There are no prerequisites for this class.
