Scouting Scholarships – Preview

Cost should never keep a child out of Scouting.

The Narragansett Council offers financial help with registration fees, uniforms, and summer camp. One short form gets the process started, and every request is kept confidential.

Which situation fits your family?

Pick the situation that fits your family to see when to apply and what to do. If more than one fits, you can request every type of help on the same form.

We’re brand new to Scouting

Apply before you complete the online membership application
  1. Find a Cub Scout pack or Scouts BSA troop near you at BeAScout.org, but hold off on paying the registration fee.
  2. Fill out the Financial Assistance Request Form and check every type of help you need, such as registration fees and uniform help.
  3. Include your pack or troop leader’s email address so we can follow up with them.

My Scout is going to summer camp

Apply by May 15; later requests are still considered

Camp scholarships (called “camperships”) are available for Scouts BSA Camp at Yawgoog, Webelos Camp at Yawgoog, Cub Scout Day Camp, and Family Camp Weekends.

  1. Complete the 2026 Campership Application.
  2. Include your Cubmaster’s or Scoutmaster’s email address.
  3. Plan for your Scout and their unit to cover part of the camp fee. See “Sharing the cost” below for ideas.

If your family’s situation changes, or your Scout decides to go to camp after May 15, apply anyway. We’ll still consider your request.

How the process works

You can send a request at any time of year. The deadlines above simply help us share limited funds fairly.

  1. Fill out the form

Select every type of help that applies to your family.

  2. Add your leader’s email

Include your Cubmaster’s or Scoutmaster’s email so we can reach them.

  3. Volunteers review it

A committee of Council volunteers reviews each request so help is shared fairly.

  4. We contact your unit

Once your application is received, we follow up with your Cubmaster or Scoutmaster.

Every request is confidential. Your family’s information is used only to review your request.

“A Scout is thrifty. He/She works to pay their way and to help others.” From the Scout Law

Sharing the cost

In keeping with the Scout Law, we ask that each Scout and their unit make every effort to pay part of the camp fee. It teaches Scouts to set a goal and earn their way toward it.

Many units help Scouts earn camp money through the annual popcorn sale. Ask your unit leader what options your pack or troop offers.

Funds are limited, but our commitment isn’t: we want every youth member to be able to take part in Scouting and go to camp.

A note to leaders and parents

The forever commitment of the Narragansett Council Board and staff is to provide Scouting to all youth, regardless of their financial status. While funds are limited, we are committed to scholarship assistance so every youth member can take part in Scouting and attend summer camp.

We sincerely hope you enjoy your Scouting experience, and we can’t wait to see you at summer camp!

Yours in Scouting,

Tim McCandless

Scout Executive/CEO

Common questions

Will anyone else know we asked for help?

No. All requests for aid are handled confidentially.

We missed the deadline. Can we still apply?

Yes. Requests are accepted any time. For camp, if your situation changes or your Scout decides to attend after May 15, we’ll still consider your request.

Do I need a separate form for each type of help?

The Financial Assistance Request Form covers every type of help we offer, so check each option that applies. For summer camp, also complete the Campership Application.

Why do you need my unit leader’s email?

We contact your Cubmaster or Scoutmaster once your application is received, so including their email keeps things moving.

Who decides how much help we get?

A committee of Council volunteers reviews every request to make sure assistance is shared fairly among families who need it.

Ready to apply?

Start with the request form. Heading to camp? Fill out the campership application too.
