Welcome to the central hub for Scouting America Training, where we provide the “magic wand” to transform the Scouting experience for youth and adults alike.
From national conferences and volunteer development opportunities to immersive leadership experiences at the Philmont Training Center, this section offers the tools, certifications, and resources needed to deliver a safe, engaging, and high-quality program. Whether you are completing required Safeguarding Youth Training, exploring new leadership resources, participating in position-specific courses, or expanding your outdoor skills, you will find everything you need here to lead with confidence and ensure every Scout benefits from a trained leader.
The Leader Development Continuum serves as a roadmap for every Scouting America volunteer’s training journey. Beginning with Safeguarding Youth Training and New Leader Orientation, leaders build a strong foundation through position-specific training tailored to their role. Scouts BSA leaders continue with Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS), while Cub Scout leaders complete BALOO to gain the outdoor program skills needed for their units. Along the way, leaders are encouraged to participate in Roundtables, supplemental learning opportunities, and specialized courses covering topics such as outdoor ethics, safety, inclusion, mental wellness, and trainer development. The continuum culminates with Wood Badge, Scouting America’s premier leadership training experience, which develops advanced leadership skills that strengthen units, districts, and councils. The result is a lifelong learning pathway that equips volunteers to provide exceptional programs and positively impact the lives of young people.
